I have many things to say but I don’t know where to start! Things are so messed up in my head. When I feel sad or depressed, I don’t show those feelings so I won’t disturb the people around me. I usually keep them inside me. When I call you I pretend to be happy and calm, but guess what, I feel the pain deep inside my sole. It is hard to accept the fact that you are leaving Denver without any previous notification. And what makes it worse is that you are leaving it by force. It was all because of a stopped paper! Damn!!You know what, Denver has no life in it without your company. You are the light when I walk in the dark, you are the life preserver when I drown in the ocean, and you are the color that gives the meanings for all the flowers in the world. We came together, and we promised each other that we’re going to accomplish our goals and leave together. Hay man, things are still in control. I don’t want you to give up hope so easily. I will not forgive you if you said the phrase “I failed‿. That is not in my dictionary nether yours! I haven’t solved my problem with the US Visa yet, and there is a big chance that I might not get back there, however, I still have some faith. It is too early to make those assumptions because I have 3 more weeks. Abdul my best friend, when I go threw our memories, I remember an ideal person. I remember a person who is always there when I needed him. You always care about everyone else around you and you carry their problems but non of them knew about your pain. You suffered a lot so far. Oh my dear friend, share some with me and let me carry them for you. You know what is the worst feeling in the world? It is when you see your friend suffer in front of your own eyes and you can’t do anything about it. I feel so useless just like a bird with broken wings! All I can say for you now is that I will not stop praying for you. Hope that a miracle will happen and we get together with the rests of our friends under that roof! That is all I’m asking for. It has been said once, the darkest moment of the night come just right before the down.Think about it!Saud…

[Identity] This is who I am!!

I woke up one day and I started thinking about all my friends. Each one of them has his or her own identity. However, they still have one thing in common; they read!! I said to myself that day “Hey Saud, why aren’t you reading like everybody else around you?” That was the question that signaled a turning point in my life and changed my identity. Read different books in different fields with different perspectives made me an opened minded. Thanks to my friends who made that change in my personality. I guess I was not born with it just like the rest of the actions, behaviors and thoughts that forms my personality. I developed it within myself. When children are born, they get their identities from everything around them: parents, siblings, friends, relatives, and every person they interact with, even babysitters. They also get it from the people they admire; for example, movie stars, world leaders, and scientists. When they move on in their lives, their identity constantly changes with the change of the environment and the experiences they have been through such as succeeding in business, getting divorced or even spending time in hospital or prison. All these severe environmental changes affect a human’s identity. During our life, we learn new kinds of behaviors. Some of which might be good to adopt, others which might not be suitable in our society. That scale is different from one culture to culture. Changing vicious behavior is absolutely possible but first you have to know what it is. There are some behaviors in you that you know are vicious, but there are others you do not. And here where a good friend takes place. Even though people have different identities from each other, they still have things in common and those common behaviors shape our society. In my society for instance, most of the people are generous. It is rare to shut your door and not welcome guests. In fact, welcoming guests to our homes is a behavior we gained from the culture. In Brazil for example, people grow up not respecting time. They are flexible with appointments which is a common behavior in their society; however, it’s not in America and Japan. It will be considered as a very rude behavior. Despite the huge disparities in all cultures; there are many similarities and homogeneity between them such as love, art, and human rights, which lead us to one conclusion; different cultures are only fake boundaries between us!

SAUD ALMADHI

No, I can't fix your computer!

"Dude, my computer's busted, can you fix it?"

"Hey, do you know why my computer won't boot up?"

"I keep getting this error message, what's the deal?"

Have you heard any or all of these before? Well I have, and if you have a job in computers or are a student in computer science/engineering, chances are you have too. I spent a good part of my college years trying to help people with their computer problems, but then I realized something...I am not a computer repairman. I am a software engineer (with a degree in computer engineering), so I spent my college years learning algorithms, design principles, programming, web development, architecture, etc. I did not spend my time studying computer diagnosis, network troubleshooting, virus prevention/recovery, Windows specifics, nor anything associated with computer repair. So get it through your head, I can't fix your computer!

This may come as a shock to many people, because they believe that if I cannot fix their computer, then I don't know a lick about computers. I'll get the usual responses:

"Aren't you an engineer? Obviously not a very good one!"

"Don't people pay you to do this?"

"What the hell do they teach you computer people anyway?"

All this time I've been working towards being a "computer expert", but I'm really just a know-nothing with a degree. For a while I mistakenly believed this, and thought that I should know how to fix a computer. So, I started reading up on some troubleshooting practices and the like, but I didn't do it because I liked it, I did it because I thought I should be doing it. I learned a little, and might be able to diagnose simple problems, but I grew tired of learning how to repair computers and gave it up, cursing myself for not being good at something I claim to be in my area of expertise, that being computers.

After joining the professional world, I learned a very valuable lesson. "Computer expert" can refer to a very wide range of occupations. There are network experts, processor architecture experts, web development experts, platform development experts, database experts, the list goes on. To be a software engineering expert, does not require that I be an expert in fixing computers, it doesn't even require that I be an expert on anything else related to computers. Sure, I'll want to be aware of network protocols, and database principles, and operating systems theories, but I don't need to be an expert in them. What I do need to be an expert at is programming, software architecture, design principles, algorithms, data structures, web frameworks, etc. That is what matters, but it turns out that in my quest to be an expert in my one niche, software engineering, I'm learning a lot about computers in general, perhaps even enough to troubleshoot certain problems that may arise with windows, or a piece of software, or my machine's hardware. These are usually simple problems, but when it comes to the really tough problems...I'll leave those to the experts.

The Future of Networks & Connections

Technology and data transmission are frequently changing every year since the beginning of the internet couple decades ago and especially after the World Wide Web project at the early 1990’s. The growth of Technology and networks has positively affected every field in today’s life. For example, business, health, security, army,…etc. on the other hand, the evolution of the technology is a double edge sword. In other words, it is essential for every organization to compete with this technology and live with it, otherwise, no way for an organization to survive this battle. There are different types of network connections nowadays; however, some of which may not survive 10 years form today, others will lead and be the most important ones. The question is which are the ones who will lead and survive on top of others? And why?

There are different ways to hock your computer wither it’s a laptop or desktop to the internet. Dial-up, ADSL, Cable, Satellite and Wireless are the common ways for the time being; however, the dial-up is not popular anymore because it is very slow compared to the other connections. ADSL and Cable are almost the same; however, the ADSL connection needs a Phone line in order to work unlike cable connections. In general, both ADSL and cable are very convenient connections and can reach a very high speed as well. Satellite connection is fast but expensive for individual users. Wireless connection is the latest technology in the network world. Right now, it is not the best choice between the network connections but it has a bright future. One of the problems that held it from being the preferable network among the rest is the difficulties in installing the wireless software and the conflicts that might happen with the firewall unlike the ADSL or cable connection. Another problem is the stability of the radio. The Wireless connection has not reached a point were you can receive a stream of data like video and voice without some corruption. Powerful wireless access points nowadays can solve 95% of the problem but still can’t be as stable as the Cable or ADSL. For some organizations, stability and convenience are very important to the business. In short, it is a matter of time before wireless connections’ golden age starts.

It is clear to any Company wants to invest in any of the available networks that the Wireless connection is the future. The culture of the technology is responsible for the extreme change we have in network connections. In other words, devices and gadgets are getting smaller and smaller every day so that it is possible to carry them anywhere. It is not only that, but also they are provided with wireless connection capability so the owners can login to the internet whenever and wherever they are. In my imagination, the network connection 50 years from now will be an advance version of the WIMAX connection. A central wireless access point connection that is strong enough to cover a whole city. Satellite connection will be used to connect between those WIMAX access points. No more wires lying around the ground in our homes and work offices. The chart of connections in the future will be divided as the following: a huge percentage goes to wireless connections, a small percentage goes to satellite connections and a very tiny percentage goes to cable connections. By reaching that level of technology, there will be no more worries and concerns for some countries that face serious problems with their infrastructure or even don’t have one. In shore, Wireless connection is the future.

SAUD ALMADHI

In fact, a well-known philosopher, Sigmund Freud, believed the whole life is controlled and commanded by sex only. Freud's beliefs regarding sex excited many people because the topic was and remains a controversial and personal, or "secret" issue, and is still hotly debated in many circles. Many people believe that sex is the core of human pleasure, and therefore develop sexual relations in short periods of time in order to satisfy their sexual instincts or affirm their masculinity or femininity. However, their pleasure and enjoyment is short-lived. Their satisfaction soon converts to dissatisfaction, and their happiness turns to sadness because temporary sexual relationships provide people with short-lived pleasure. Meanwhile, others might establish long-term sexual relationships, without feeling the emotional pleasure of sex. In reality, if everyone would treat sexual relationships according to the following criterion that I will describe, they would become aware of the true beauty of sex. In my opinion, there are three chief spiritual criterion that would make sex more valuable and pleasurable.
Firstly , love is of considerable value in sexual relations. The act of sex without love is like a sport without spirit: like people who play sports as though merely dealing with tools without sensation or consciousness and just arduously move their bodies without moving their emotions. Similarly, after completing that sexual act, the people having sex without love separate from their partners because their desires have already been filled, and their partners are of no deeper importance to them. For instance, many women only involved with men for sexual purposes might shortly after find themselves being treated solely as sporting tools because love is lost or absent between them.
Secondly , sacrifice is the essence of love. The greatest sacrifice in love is to surrender your body to the will your partner and do what he or she wants. Sex should follow deep love as the expression of sacrifice, and not before the development of love as an empty symbol of amusement or enjoyment in the granting of the body for an hour or two a night with different people in order to gratify sexual appetite. Those who engage in such activities might experience emptiness and loss because they have speedily granted their bodies to strangers who do not appreciate this sacrifice. In a long term relationship based on love, sacrifice becomes an instrument of loving another, and this love symbolizes the sacrifice of the self. If love is precluded from sexual relationships, a valuable means of managing and defining the relationship is lost.

Thirdly , things that are difficult to acquire are always better appreciated. That which is desired and needed should be arduous to attain. For example, if you struggle in life to succeed in your education, job or personal life, you will understand what is required in success and excellence and will respect what you have achieved. Otherwise, if you are able to gain things with ease, you will not appreciate life and will instead be careless and unconcerned. People who consider sex as an easy process will not esteem its importance. Therefore, sex should be pursued carefully so that you feel its greatness and value. If sex is not handled as something fragile it will be worthless and lowly: it would be like throwing left over food in the garbage. Moreover, a great deal of studies showed that many people love their partners who don’t express their emotions easily. Finally a successful sexual relationship can be demanding to maintain, but like gold or diamonds, is worth the effort to attain.
In conclusion , I am absolutely certain that human sexual life will be better and more beautiful if we adhere to the spiritual principles outlined above.
Dr.Abdulghani Alkindi.

Don’t Let Them Rip You Off

Yesterday, I went with a friend to one of the largest electronics departments to buy a laptop for his 8 years old little brother who doesn’t know anything about computers. He said to me “I want my brother to comply with our modern life and to know more about computers because I believe that a person without computer skills nowadays is like a kitchen without an oven!!” Due to the fact that I am a computer student and my major is in Computer Information Systems, I like to read more about anything related to computers and sometimes I focus on deep technical information so I can understand how stuff works. When my friend told me about his brother, I had no difficulties identifying what type of computer his little brother really needed, a cheap standard laptop with a new operating system such as Microsoft or Mac OS. Well, when we went to the store, a customer service representative came and asked me if I needed some help!! I told the guy that I was looking for a standard laptop for someone who doesn’t know any thing about computers. I was shocked when he showed me the SONY VAIO SZ series that cost around $1950. This type of laptop has features that will not be used by a beginning user. I said nothing to the guy because I wanted to know what would happen if I were illiterate in computers. Afterwards, the customer service guy brought three pieces of software; Windows XP was one of them even though any computer should have an operating system!! I felt sad and angry for such a dishonest behavior from that worker. I could trust neither the worker nor the place so I bought the laptop from somewhere else. Based on that, I wanted to give some brief information about what to look for while entering a computer store.
How can you really choose the best computer that suits your needs? What exactly are you going to use your computer for? The first step is to choose between Desktops and Laptops. Desktops are made to handle heavy duty jobs; however, you need to install the right parts and hardware in order to get the best performance out of you computer. One of the benefits of buying a desktop is that you can change and upgrade its content as much as you like. In other words it is so flexible that it can survive for a very long time. Changes and upgrades can be done on PC computers but not on Mac computers because Mac computers have fixed hardware and software configuration and limitations in upgrades. Choosing a laptop is a smart decision for a person who can’t be separated from his computer and carries it wherever and whenever he goes. The price of any laptop is based on the features that it has. If you ask for more features in your computer, it means increasing the computer’s price and this is the second step in choosing a computer. Choosing which features you really need. You have to be wise in this step; moreover, choose only what you are going to use. For a person who’s going to use the computer to browse the internet and use office and word editor, all you need is a very simple computer. However, if a one second delay makes a difference to you while browsing the internet; for example people who use the internet for stock market transactions, make sure that the RAM [Random Access Memory] is high-between 512MB and 1GB. For people who use their computers to work on heavy and stressful programs such as Databases(Oracle, MySQL,…), VMwares, and programming editors, your main focus beside the RAM will be on the processor speed [CPU 1.8GHz – 2GHz speed or more] and the memory buffer [1MB to 2MB cache]. The memory buffer’s job is to reduce the processing time by saving the data of a file that will be used for several times on the buffer cache; moreover, the RAM’s job is to hold program code during computation. For graphics designers, you definitely need to add a powerful graphics card. I personally recommend ATI or NVIDIA and make sure that the RAM on those graphics cards is 512MB or more. The interface in Mac OS computer is much better that Windows OS computer. Both the size and the type of screens will also affect your desire to design. You need a 17-23-inch size. I would recommend the XGA type because it is very clear and can be seen from any angle. One of the things that considered important in a screen is the refreshing rate. A high refreshing rate means a high resolution and quality. Adding a good Cinematic surround sound with 5.1 or 7.1 speaker systems on top of all what we mentioned is the ultimate combination for gamers and DJs. In short, it is always nice to know someone who knows something rather than going out there and not knowing anything and getting ripped off by people who think they know everything. type='text'>

align="justify">
People still have the wrong picture of Saudi Arabia. Especially, those who live far away from the Arabian Peninsula such as European and American countries. A hundred years ago, oil was discovered in Saudi Arabia and since then, Saudi Arabia has become the largest oil exporter in the world. The circumstances started to change around the people of Saudi Arabia that forced them to change too. People used to live in tents and work simple jobs such as farming and selling goods; however, with the discovery of oil, people became rich. Even with lack of knowledge, they started different businesses around the country. The discovery of oil has made all the difference to my country in industry, construction, and scientific areas.
Oil represents a very important resource for the Saudi economy, so the government focused on getting the most benefit out of it by building different factories in different places to produce as much oil as possible. Because of that, the Saudi economy has risen; moreover, the government started to improve different industrial sectors such as food, cloth, plastic, steel… etc. All these sectors depend on the oil power to keep their industries working properly. Because of this relationship between those sectors and the oil power, when the oil prices decrease, their prices decrease as well. Nowadays the main issue for our government is to find a substitute resource for the country’s income because according to statistics, the oil will not last more than 50 years; furthermore, the Saudi’s economy will be endangered.
The revelation of oil has affected the industry sector as well; however, people from different countries have this stereotype about my country. For instance, “Do you live in a tent?” This is the question that I’ve been usually asked when I start a conversation with a European or American and I mentioned that I’m from Saudi Arabia. In large cities, skyscrapers are commonly seen. For instance, Almamlaka and Alfaisaliyah are two buildings that are considered as two of the tallest buildings in the world. Moreover, there are many beautiful buildings and bridges in my country, besides, individuals strive to build their houses to look like pieces of art. They build different shapes with different colors; moreover, the have several leisure activities such as swimming pool and soccer field. I believe that our country has become a modern country. People don’t live in the desert any more; however, they go there to entertain themselves.
Saudi Arabia has not only focused on the industry, but also the science sector. Science is one of the main issues in any country that makes it modern and respected by others because it shows the level of education in the country and that is exactly what our government was focusing on after the oil discovery. The government has assigned a large amount of its budget to improve science. Many schools and universities have been opened; furthermore, research departments were built. The government is working hard to raise the education level of its people by allowing them to study in schools and universities without paying and sending a random selection in scholarships to study abroad to get the latest knowledge in different fields; furthermore, the government can make use of them to improve the country.
In short, Saudi Arabia is not what people think it is. It has changed from what it was a hundred years ago; moreover, it is not an empty desert any more. It is a modern country that walks the path of evolution.

This is a 10 minutes movie about Saudi Arabia…

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1073764539645662178&q=saud+arabia+documentary&pl=true

SAUD ALMADHI

Spotlight on Bedouins Life

Far away from cities, luxury, and technology, there are groups of people who live a primitive unsettledness life in the desert, traveling from place to another seeking water. They are generous, brave, independent, and loyal to their tribe. Their dignity is the most valuable thing they have. Some times, just insulting the tribe’s name might start a war that lasts for hundreds of years. Who are those people?!!
They are called The Bedouins, the Nomads of the desert!!
Believe it or not, I have seen them with my own eyes when my father and I were exploring the largest desert in Arabia “The Empty Quarter.” They use natural medication from plants and animals. I was amazed when I learned that they use camel urine as a cure for some serious diseases!!

A caravan camel [The Desert’s Ship] is used for their transportation because it carries heavy possession so easily on the smooth sands; moreover, with little food and water, the camels can travel for a very long distance under the heat of the sun. Sometimes, they can survive for several months without even having a sip of water. When I was there drinking the Arabian coffee inside the tent, I received a phone call through my satellite mobile, so I went outside to answer it. I was walking in a straight line until the camp vanished from my sight. When I decided to head back, I looked for the sand dune that I had marked on my way to this point. Surprisingly, I saw hundreds of other sand dunes that looked exactly the same. The sandstorm had made the situation even worse. However, It wasn’t that serious because my father and I had a satellite mobile so one of the Bedouin found me after almost thirty minutes. I realized how easy it was to get lost in the desert. I asked the man who found me: "Why don’t you people get lost even though you travel for hundreds of miles"? He laughed and said: “We can read the stars!! They show us the directions and guide us to any place we want.” It was interesting how they can adapt themselves in such an environment.
Water and food are troublesome. It is not easy to supply food for the entire tribe, so they depend on dates as their main food resource. It gives them the strength to live and work during the day. They also herd sheep and hunt for deer and other animals using their guns and falcons. Furthermore, wool and leather from their animals are used to make clothes and tents. The rain and wellsprings are important water supplies for people, animals, and plants. These plants store large amount of water so they can last longer. The good news is if the plant dies, the seeds will remain in the soil so they will grow again in the next rainy season. Isn’t that a perfect ecosystem!!
To be armed in the desert is an obvious necessity. I was curious to know how the Bedouins get their weapons and materials. The answer is that they go to the nearest town and exchange leather and milk for the weapons, food, and other merchandise they need.

After getting lost and heading back to the camp, I saw a huge fire in front of the tent. The man told me that they had started cooking lunch. “Yes!! That is exactly what I need!!” I said.
Even though I had had breakfast 2 hours ago, I was starving. I guess walking on the sand weakens one’s stamina. Yet, what makes it really difficult is that you step on the ground it will sink for few centimeters. Also, the desert is not flat. You have to climb the sand dunes, a very exhausting process. So, I observed how they cooked. They brought 3 sheep and slaughtered them. Then, they took off the skin and removed the unwanted parts. After that, they put them in a huge kettle with rice and left them until they were done. Coffee and tea were served to us all the time. After having a delicious meal and relaxing for some time, we went hunting. It was amazing to watch the falcons soar in the blue sky and attack their victim. One of the Bedouins looked at me and said, “This is how we entertain ourselves here in the middle of no where.” They also use poetry for entertainment. One of their games is to have two teams of men stand in lines and say poetry. Each team has to make up their lines of poetry before the other team does and they are really good at that.
Hospitality is one of their main values. They show their hospitality when they have visitors. They have tents for visitors. Not only can they stay as long as they want but also food and drink are served. The same thing goes for their enemies. So if an enemy asks for help, they will help him for sure. In the evening, my dad thanked them for every thing and told them that we had to leave. They insisted on our staying, but my father apologized and told them that he had things to do back in the city. So we hit the road. That was one of my best adventures in my life, not only because I met different people who think of life in a totally different way but also because I learned new things that will never be found in any book.

SAUD ALMADHI

The Islamic Economic System

The commonly used economical systems in our world are right-wing systems such as capitalism, left-wing systems such as socialism or centrist systems such as the Islamic system; however, there are many differences between them. First, the capitalism philosophy focuses on the individuals rights that motivate every person in the society to work hard with no limitation of freedom to accomplish his/her own personal interest and according to that; the community’s interests will be accomplished. However, applying this economical system in a country splits the society into both high and low classes; furthermore, eventually the gap between those two layers will expand more and more. Rich people will gain more money and become wealthier and the standards of living for poor people will become worse until they face poverty. The Free Market Economy is one of the principles within capitalism which means market with no rules; however, none of the capitalist countries have a free market. They have limitations and restrictions against the freedom of an individual’s behavior in marketplace. Second, the socialist laws (centrally planned economy) are exactly the opposite of capitalism. They deny the individual interests, rights, and the economical freedom; furthermore, it is based on distributing the wealth that would serve the interests of a society. In other words, the only concern is to achieve equality in wealth for all members in a society which means that the creative worker will receive the exact treatment and reward as any spiritless worker. Having shortages is not an illegitimate thing. It is normal to have people standing in queues for a basic need like bread. After applying those two extreme economical systems in reality, problems and failures had showed up. Wise people in both capitalist and socialist countries started to change their principles to get over the failures and move near the center rather than taking an extreme side. Islamic Economics is fundamentally different from any other man-made laws and systems in defining economic issues because it is based on principles revealed from Islamic sources. The different between the Islamic view and those utilitarian views is that the Islamic system considers the economic activity itself as worship; moreover, it is focusing on both community and individual interests; however, if there were conflict between them, the community’s interests would be more important than individual interest. In other words, the system will protect the market competition and the customer rights by limiting the individual interest in a way that will not affect the society’s interest. The Zakat is an obligation on every Muslim who owns values and properties that costs more than the basic minimum which is US $1,300 or an equivalent amount of any other currency. The government takes the responsibility to collect the Zakat which is 2.5% of what you own; furthermore, they will split it on the poor people in the society and this process reduces the distance between the rich and poor. Banks with zero interest loans!! Yes and not only that but also there is no taxes at all. This is a brief of the Islamic economical system that took its fundamentals from the Qur’an that descended on the profit Mohammed a thousand years ago.
